Welcome to Pipit, a venture which offers affordable, flexible, and imaginative interior design services for all incomes. If you are here, you are likely considering reimagining your space in order to have it better suit who you are and improve your overall function and wellbeing. Good for you! It is my mission and goal that Pipit be a very impactful resource for many hard working people.
This process is deeply collaborative, personalized by and rooted in your own unique story. Together we shape a vision of what your living space could be, executed entirely according to your needs and your budget.
I very much believe in this work and know firsthand the empowerment and freedom that comes from being able to walk from room to room in your home feeling like you’ve simply done a good job, recognizing yourself wherever you look. To summarize everything, I can simply say that people don’t have to settle when they have the natural ability to be resourceful. I am so excited to help! Enjoy.

Everyone deserves a home that makes them feel happy, successful and at peace.
How a person feels in their home can affect virtually every aspect of life. We listen to the story our space tells us about ourselves. A chaotic, impersonal, inconsistent, empty, or even half-realized space can cause a person to feel overwhelmed, unsettled, distracted, or underdeveloped. A space that is furnished with pieces that were cheap, quick, and which we feel like we had to settle for, will make us feel poor and unworthy of nicer things. We get used to it. We stop realizing we are affected by the space we live in, and start thinking the way we feel is entirely our fault. We feel immobilized and disassociated.
But a home which feels deeply authentic to who a person is - one that is filled entirely with things that make one feel good - can remarkably improve their wellbeing. It can positively influence their outlook on life, how they feel about themselves, and how they feel when they are at rest.
My role is help you learn to sharpen your instincts and assist in building that vision, by addressing your biggest paint points and ultimately guiding you in a transformation that will significantly improve the way your home feels and how you feel while in it.

Below is a quick overview of the types of services Pipit offers. In short, the process is highly customizable to address whatever your needs are - from simple single-day consultations and quick-fixes, to a longer term collaborative and hands-on total transformation.

While an initial consultation to determine your needs is free, there are several consultation services available for anyone who is desiring a designer’s eye and advice, but who plan to execute their transformation entirely solo. These services leave you with specific suggestions, direction, and guidance for what is best for your space. Best for those with the time and motivation to tackle their home makeover, but who may not have need for design help.

These are services where I guide in re-imaging what your space could be, from broad level down to the details. This includes coming up with new arrangements and floor plans, creating themes and schemes for your spaces, and helping to developing an anchor aesthetic - while problem-solving for functional pain-points. Based upon collaborative explorations we make together, I do the heavy lifting of the up-front creative work, and you end up with final design concepts for your space, with detailed instructions, to whatever level you desire.

The art of treasure hunting! These are services that can be contracted a la carte or as add-ons to consulting or design services. Simply put, this is me helping you to find great pieces for your home!

For anyone wanting a combination of services, Pipit offers packages and bundles. Best for anyone really needing some hands-on help, (at least at the beginning), some project management, and a designer’s eye.

Who am I to offer these services? What gives me the gumption to take such a passionate stance on what Pipit offers, and to insist that this process can create the kind of impact I’m talking about? Because I practice what I preach, have had to style over twenty homes of my own from scratch, and have developed these skills slowly over time - just like you can - and have grown my life tremendously as a result.

Where are you based and where do your clients need to live in order to be served?
I’m based in Durham, North Carolina! While many services are best suited for folks local to the region, I can absolutely serve distance clients - particularly for online sourcing services, but this also applies to most consulting and design services.
Generally I am able to easily service clients within 80 miles of Durham for full capacity hands-on services and in fact have a dual home base of the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill/Carrboro) and the Triad (High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem) regions. Some travel additional rates to apply if not in the Triangle, but generally it can be built in and paid over time.

What makes this affordable?
In short, the emphasis on collaborative execution, along with a varied pricing menu, and incredibly flexible payment options (including installment plans for design packages) is what makes Pipit stand apart in terms of accessibility. I do not charge hourly rates, unlike most other designers - but instead offer boundried deliverables at set or custom rates. Because most services can be contracted a la carte, a client can make focused progress with single payments for deliverables with a quick turnaround . For those with bigger projects in mind, flexible payment plans allow clients to invest in their home transformation in a customized way that still allows for sourcing elements while sticking to a budget.
Aside from all of this of the processes are designed to be short term and do not involve my coordinating purchases, negotiations, pick ups or deliveries (unless purchased as an add-on). This is not only empowering to the client, it allows me to keep my rates significantly lower. I also focus on sourcing quality secondhand pieces, using what exists in the home, and DIY strategies, versus relying on newly manufactured (and expensive) elements
What makes this empowering for the client?
The unique pasts, needs, stories and desires of the client are central to how we create their unique space. We highlight the creative process and push against the desire to rush an outcome.
Through sharing tricks, and guided understanding of design basics Clients will grow their vocabulary of what they like, develop new habits, and learn to trust their instincts, resulting in confidence and skill-building. Apart from the hyper-personalized process, the client remains the driver and ultimate decider. Because the process is shorter term, the emphasis is also on the client eventually “weaning” off from needing my helping and taking full control over their home’s transformation.
Finally, by cutting out buying and coordinating ( which other firms often take off the clients’ plates), I keep my costs lower and the client keeps ownership. By avoiding changes that require contractors in the first place, the overall cost of the project is also lower and remains in the capable hands of the clients themselves.
