A pipet is a songbird that belongs to the same family as the sparrow. Throughout time and across cultures and continents, sparrows have appeared in folklore, literature and oral storytelling, their symbolic meaning ranging from resilience, resourcefulness, and peace of mind, to portends of good luck, transformation, and transcendance over struggle. They are revered as humble creatures known for their cleverness and for making something beautiful out of very little. They often represent hard work, diligence, and the balance between self-reliance and community. In terms of population, sparrows and the entire Passeridae family are the most common birds in the world. They can be found nesting anywhere and adapt to most any condition.

Ninety percent of our population are the pipits and sparrows of the human world. We are creative, adaptable, resourceful, resilient and patiently determined because that’s what we have to be as working, busy people living in an economy that doesn’t do us any favors. My mission is tap into those qualities and help everyday people to apply them toward creating the perfect nest to relax in and feel proud of.

It was important to me for the name of this venture to reflect not just the values and the truths that define the work itself but also the people who I believe are most deserving and in need of a place that reflects their true worth back to them.

A person’s living space is the only sanctuary they have, and potentially the only aspect of life that can reasonably be controlled and consistent. If someone doesn’t love how their home feels it can be unnerving and distracting at best, disempowering or overwhelming at worst.

I cannot stress enough how powerful a personalized, put together home is on the heart and mind of the average person. A home that doesn’t feel right affects a person’s productivity, their self-view, and their outlook. It makes the world outside of their home become where they go for comfort and peace instead of the other way around.

The average person is one who likely works hard (maybe too hard), has a unique set of struggles, and generally isn’t a stranger to making sacrifices in order to get by. Whether or not financial stress is a reality for a person, it’s safe to say that we live in an era where most of us aren’t able to indulge in some of the areas that need the most attention. For most folks, their home - and investing in it - is among the first priorities to fall by the wayside when times are stressful or hard. Ironically, our living spaces may be exactly what could help us feel happier, more secure, and more grounded - but only if they work for us.

But most interior design and decorating services are extremely expensive, and so are totally inaccessible to the average person. In most cases, working with a designer means a long-term commitment, third-party contractors, expensive furniture, and money. Loads and loads of it. Even without hiring someone, totally refurnishing a home can, through normal practices, cost tens of thousands of dollars and an excessive amount of time and stress.

Or maybe you’re a renter, doomed to feel transient as long as someone else’s name is at the top of your lease, with rules that keep you from personalizing. And why invest in something you won’t be in for longer than a year or two, right? (Spoiler alert, I’m a renter, and boy can I answer that question for you).

Whether you rent or own, the Everyday person should be able to have support in building their safe space. Good design and peace of mind should not just be a luxury only some people can afford

Pipit provides customizable, flexible, and affordable interior design services, home transformation coaching and support for households of any income. This is done through addressing pain points with quick fixes, developing super personalized designs based around your needs, preferences, and budget, an aesthetic guidance process, detailed plan-making for execution, and/or hands-on assistance in sourcing. It all depends on your needs.
